"Nostalgic Hong Kong" Parent-Child Photography Competition
Activity goals: | To allow parents and children to appreciate places in Hong Kong with Chinese architectural characteristics. Encourage parents and children to unleash their creativity by incorporating elements of Chinese culture into the competition photos. |
Activity introduction: | Parents and children are invited to visit locations with Chinese architectural features, such as study rooms, gardens, and pavilions, to explore and take parent-child photos against the backdrop of these sites for the competition. |
"Summer Traditional Chinese Medicine Health Preservation" Seminar
Activity goals: | To understand the culture of Traditional Chinese Medicine and learn about health preservation knowledge for the summer season. |
Activity introduction: | To help parents understand Chinese medical culture and health preservation knowledge, the school is hosting a “Summer Traditional Chinese Medicine Health Preservation” seminar. We are honored to invite Dr. Chan Ka Miu(Assistant Lecturer, Chinese Medicine at Hong Kong Baptist University) to explain some summer health preservation information through an online meeting. The school also encourages all parents who attend the online seminar to receive a complimentary “Traditional Chinese Medicine Health Preservation Soup Pack.” |
Chinese Arts Activity
Activity goals: | Through Chinese arts activities, help children understand traditional Chinese art and appreciate their own country’s traditional culture. Introduce children to Chinese ink painting, clay making, and handicrafts. |
Activity introduction: | In this activity, children will learn about different forms of traditional Chinese art and personally experience Chinese ink painting, clay, and handicraft making, deepening their understanding of Chinese cultural arts. |
Mid-Autumn Festival celebration
Activity goals: | Through the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations, children can learn about the customs and culture of traditional Chinese festivals and feel the atmosphere of the Chinese festivals. |
Activity introduction: | During the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration, the children learned about various traditional foods, customs, and culture associated with the festival, deepening their understanding of the concept of “reunion” in Chinese culture. Through a parent-child eco-friendly lantern design activity, parents also enhanced their understanding of Chinese culture, collectively experiencing the atmosphere of “reunion” during the Mid-Autumn Festival. |
Chinese Culture Week
Activity goals: | To establish a sense of identity as Chinese among children and their parents. Through experiential activities, children will learn about traditional Chinese arts and culture, recognize different traditional Chinese clothing, and understand the proper attitude and etiquette during the national flag-raising ceremony. |
Activity introduction: | During the Chinese Culture Week activities, children will learn about various traditional Chinese foods, arts and culture, and traditional clothing, as well as enjoy Mandarin musical performances. This will deepen their understanding of Chinese culture and enhance their sense of identity as Chinese citizens. Each classroom will also have a Chinese culture corner, such as a simulated tea house, market, and study room, allowing children to learn through play and experience Chinese culture. |
Flag raising ceremony
Activity goals: | Enhancing children’s national identity recognition and understanding and adhering to flag-raising etiquette. |
Activity introduction: | The school has established a “Flag-Raising Team.” To expand the number of team members, this year, children from the K2 class will also participate. Training for the “Flag-Raising Team” will be conducted weekly, where they will learn the flag-raising ceremony and adhere to the etiquette associated with it. The school will hold flag-raising ceremonies on important days and occasions such as “National Day, Handover Day, the first day of school, and graduation ceremonies,” allowing children to recognize their country’s flag and national anthem, fostering an early understanding of their identity as Chinese citizens. |
Cultural Tour
Activity goals: | To enhance parents’ and children’s understanding of Chinese cultural arts through activities. To experience the sentiments of ancient China and deepen the recognition of national identity. |
Activity introduction: | K2-K3 will visit the Hong Kong Palace Museum and explore the cultural park in the West Kowloon Cultural District – the Sky Corridor, allowing them to learn about Chinese culture and experience the colors of Chinese art. N1-K1 will visit the Tai Po Waterfront Park and the Hong Kong Reunification Monument, experiencing the sentiments of ancient China and deepening their recognition of national identity. K2-K3 will visit the Hong Kong Museum of History to learn about Hong Kong’s historical culture and enhance their recognition of national identity. |
New Year Celebration
Activity goals: | To allow children to experience the atmosphere of the Lunar New Year. To introduce them to traditional customs of the New Year and help them learn about Chinese traditional culture. To plan goals for the new year with the children and encourage them to practice these goals. To increase opportunities for home-school collaboration through a parent-child decoration creation activity. |
Activity introduction: | The New Year Celebration will involve children learning about the traditional customs and festive foods of the Lunar New Year. They will experience the joy of the Lunar New Year through activities such as night market stalls and dragon and lion dances. All teachers and students will create a video to send their blessings. Additionally, the school will invite parents and children to make New Year decorations together and decorate the campus environment to enhance the atmosphere of the traditional Chinese New Year. |
